The vision

Whoever owns it, whatever the situation, with or without internet: a companion that can help with every task within its reach and can prove that it did, that lets no important data leave the machine, and that grows with you.

AI assistants are about to be given real authority over files, messages, money and time. Most of them are built so that you have to take their word for what they did.

We think that is backwards. The more an assistant can do, the less its own account should be trusted, and the more the software around it should prove.

What Eyva does

Everyday help, on your own computer.

The development build has 344 abilities, each with its own name. These are the kinds of work they cover.

Files

Your files, carefully

Open, search and edit files. Every edit can be undone, and an overwrite shows you a card first.

Memory

Remembers what you tell it

The people, places and preferences you mention, kept on your disk. Ask what it knows about you and it shows you.

Plans

A day, a week, a goal

Next steps, notes and lists, a plan for the day or the week, goals, a morning briefing.

Time

Reminders and timers

Reminders, timers and schedules. When the moment comes it is raised to you. Nothing runs unattended.

Mail

Mail and calendar

Reads your mail and your calendar through the apps on your computer. Sending a message or changing an event asks first.

Documents

Reads and makes documents

Reads PDFs and Office files. Makes a document, a chart or a diagram from your data, and asks first.

The web

Looks things up when you ask

An instant answer, or a page you name, fetched only when you ask.

Code

Works with your projects

Reads a project, reports its git state, shows a real diff and drafts a commit message.

It can also look at your screen or through the camera when you ask, and what it sees stays on your computer. Not here yet: Windows, and sending pictures or sound to the cloud.

The crown

What Eyva knows stays with you.

Everything Eyva remembers about you is kept on your own disk, in one file, not on a server of ours.

Open the Brain door and read what it knows, and where each fact came from.

Today’s limitWhile Eyva is in use the file is not encrypted. A lockdown seals it, with the key in your Keychain.

The trunk

Every act leaves a receipt.

Eyva asks before anything that can’t be undone. After each turn it shows what it did, where each result came from, and whether anything left this machine.

Removing a file always asks first, and the file goes to a trash Eyva can restore from. An edit can be put back from a snapshot taken before it.

Today’s limitUndo is offered on the most recent act only.

A receipt

One turn, as the app shows it.

You asked Eyva to rewrite the opening of a note, carefully. Here is what it showed you before anything left, and what it kept after.

1 · Before

Before this leaves

Shown whatever the everyday switch says, because Eyva masked private details in it.

What would leave

Rewrite the opening of meeting-notes.md so it reads well for ⟦PERSON·7c2e·1⟧ before Monday’s call with ⟦ORG·7c2e·1⟧. Reply to ⟦EMAIL·7c2e·1⟧ if anything is unclear.

This would be sent to Eyva’s cloud. Nothing has left yet.

2 · After

To undoSay “undo that”, and Eyva puts the note back from its snapshot.

The card text is the app’s own, with the cloud’s name left out. The name, the company and the address were masked before the request left, and the note itself was edited on your computer.

The roots

It reaches only as far as you ask.

By default the model that answers you runs on your computer, with or without internet. If you allow the cloud, hard, careful or code work, or anything you send there, can go to Eyva’s cloud brain.

Before a request leaves, the veil masks the private details in it, and a masked request is shown to you first.

A web page, a document or words in a picture can never widen what Eyva is allowed to do.

Today’s limitThe local model is a one-time download. Eyva shows its size first, and you can postpone it.

How we build

Six rules we don’t trade away.

They are older than this product. Several exist because something once went wrong without them.

01

Ask before anything that can’t be undone.

Irreversible actions never happen without your approval. No shortcut, and no exception Eyva grants itself.

02

Enforce in code, never by asking the model.

Every honesty guarantee is a detector, a code path or a constraint. A rule that lives only in a prompt is not a guarantee.

03

Never let a number reach you through the model.

Timers, countdowns, distances, statistics and prices are computed in code, always.

04

Text Eyva reads is never authority.

A web page or a document can never widen what it may do. Making Eyva more permissive always costs a person’s approval.

05

Guard the shared layer, not one tool.

Protection belongs where every ability passes through it, not on the one under review.

06

Ship the limit with the feature.

If Eyva can’t do something, it says so where you would have looked for it, on the same day.

Questions

Asked before downloading.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

On your computer, by default, and local-only is on until you turn it off. With the cloud allowed, hard, careful or code work, or work you send there, goes to Eyva’s cloud brain after the veil has masked it.

Do I need an account?

Not for anything on your computer. Cloud turns need a free account, and you sign in with a six-digit code sent by e-mail. There is no password.

What do I need to run it?

A Mac with Apple silicon, macOS 14 or later and 16 GB of memory, the one size we have measured. Eyva brings its own model runner and downloads the suggested model at first run, after showing its size. You can postpone it.
